ĀYU COUNCIL

ĀYU Council was founded in 2015 to provide a fresh start for the development of Āyurveda in the US based on classical standards. As an unrecognized, unlicensed profession today, Āyurveda has the opportunity to develop as a complete paradigm with full recognition of its scope. ĀYU Council strives to represent the classical science accurately and effectively for the current time and culture.

Throughout its history, Āyurveda has experienced growth, discoveries and challenges. The profession today spans communities across the globe with widely varied knowledge and skills. ĀYU Council is building a common platform to collaborate and advance Āyurveda through development of its secular, scientific framework and technology.

B-CORP

ĀYU Council is a Public Benefit Corporation (B-Corp). All proceeds go directly to fulfilling our mission.

MISSION

ĀYU Council's mission is to establish, promote and advance Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM) in the West.

VISION

ĀYU Council envisions primary, holistic and sustainable health care with Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM).

Values and Goals

Since its inception in 2015, ĀYU Council has prioritized integrity, awareness and alignment with the core principles of Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM). Our values provide the support to advance our goals.

The development of professional Āyurveda in the United States today offers a wealth of opportunity. With a creative, forward-thinking approach that is rooted in classical education and practice, ĀYU Council strives to provide leadership, direction and guidance in the United States.

We value scientific knowledge and experience that is well-informed from the wide range of perspectives involved in Āyurveda. We raise questions and issues about the state of practice to build a robust system that will support needs in the coming decades.

We prioritize comprehensive, thorough, in-depth education built on Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM). We also recognize many possibilities to improve the status-quo and the very unique opportunity to do that here and now in the United States.

Our Goals

  • Provide comprehensive, complete and accurate information about Āyurveda
  • Thoroughly review and analyze the requirements for licensure in India before attempting licensure in the US
  • Continuously review and update standards for education and practice
  • Inform the professional community about ĀYU Council and Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM)
  • Assist schools and practitioners in advancing with Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM)

Our Founder and Executive Director

Jessica Vellela founded ĀYU Council in 2015 after spending nearly eight years in India to become the first American-born Āyurvedic Doctor. Like many, she sees the potential for Āyurveda as a primary, holistic heath care system. She is committed to bringing this vision to life through collaboration with Traditional Āyurvedic Medicine (TAM), Integrative Medicine and technology to create holistic health care that is scientific, proven and accessible.

As the Executive Director of ĀYU Council, Jessica provides leadership, direction and motivation with a unique skill set. She completed Āyurvedic medical training in India in 2012 with first rank. Prior to Āyurveda, she built a successful career as a self-taught data architect and database programmer. Since returning to the US, she has started several businesses, including a school for professional Āyurveda. She is currently authoring a six-volume textbook series for professional Āyurvedic education.
